New Delhi: Jailer 2 has hit its first real slowdown at the box office. Rajinikanth’s action film earned Rs 6.96 crore net in India on its second Tuesday, which was day 13 of its run. The film, the second collaboration between the actor and director Nelson Dilipkumar, reached theatres on October 15 and has already crossed Rs 400 crore net in the country.

Jailer 2 box office collection day 13

Trade website Sacnilk mentioned that the domestic total now stands at Rs 415.11 crore. Tuesday’s figure is nearly 8 per cent lower than Monday’s Rs 9.45 crore. Monday itself had marked the first time the film posted low numbers since its release.

During the Dussehra festive period, Jailer 2 collected between Rs 46 crore and Rs 59 crore a day. The numbers dropped after the holiday, but the film held steady enough to bring in Rs 334.35 crore in its first week. It then earned Rs 14.50 crore last Friday, Rs 24.15 crore on Friday and Rs 25.70 crore across the weekend. The first major drop came this Monday.

Records and upcoming releases

Despite the slowdown, Jailer 2 has had a strong run. It has outperformed every Tamil film released this year and is the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge remains at the top. Jailer 2 has also overtaken Rajinikanth’s own 2.0 to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.

No major release is lined up for the next few days, so it remains to be seen whether the film can keep its momentum going until Diwali. Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, arrives on November 5. Jithu Madhavan’s Scene, featuring Suriya, Nazriya Nazim and Naslen, follows on November 6. Suriya comes into the release on a high, with both his films this year, Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons, performing well at the box office.

Jailer 2 cast and crew

Nelson Dilipkumar directs the film, and Kalanithi Maran has produced it under Sun Pictures. Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik return in their roles from the earlier film. SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan have joined the cast as new additions.
