India eye another dominant performance against Zimbabwe in Vadodara

Vadodara: Fresh from a crushing nine-wicket win in the series opener, India will look to clinch the ODI series when they take on Zimbabwe in the second match at the BCA Stadium here on Sunday.

The hosts, who swept the T20I series 3-0 in Raipur, extended their dominance on Friday as left-arm spinner Sree Charani’s career-best figures of 4-23 and opener Pratika Rawal’s unbeaten century propelled them to another victory on a fresh red-soil pitch.

After bowling out Zimbabwe for 197, India chased down the target with 137 balls to spare, getting their ICC Championship campaign off to a winning start. Charani was India’s standout bowler, relying on tight lines to keep Zimbabwe’s batters in check. Pacer Kranti Gaud supported her well with figures of 3-42, and India will hope that continues on Sunday.

Seventeen-year-old Beloved Biza held Zimbabwe’s innings together with a patient 62 off 92 balls, her fourth ODI half-century, and will again be the visitors’ best batting hope on Sunday. With the bat, Pratika was outstanding, hitting 15 fours in her 96-ball century — her third in the format.

Another positive for India was regular opener Shafali Verma’s unbeaten 64 off 33 balls, including five fours and four sixes, while batting at No. 3 for only the second time in ODIs. India, who are using the series to test different combinations ahead of their multi-format tour of South Africa, will want to tighten up their fielding after two early lapses.
