Hardik Pandya to Punjab Kings? LSG eye Suryakumar Yadav as captain ahead of IPL 2027 auction
New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) have reportedly entered the race to sign star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya from Mumbai Indians (MI). MI are keen to trade Hardik ahead of the upcoming , and multiple franchises have shown interest in roping in the all-rounder.

As per a report in Sports Tak, Punjab Kings have made an approach for Hardik, and the proposed deal could involve a straight swap with Team India pacer Arshdeep Singh. However, Mumbai Indians are reportedly holding out for another player to be included in the trade deal with Arshdeep.
Hardik’s future with the Mumbai Indians has been subject to intense speculation ever since reports emerged that the five-time champions are ready to part ways with the all-rounder and are open to trade deals involving other players. As per reports, multiple teams, including the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), are also interested in trading Hardik from MI.
However, no team has managed to agree on a deal with the five-time champions for the star all-rounder yet. Hardik returned to MI after leading Gujarat Titans for two seasons in 2024 and replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. However, his captaincy stint has failed to live up to expectations, with MI missing out on the playoffs twice in three seasons under him.
LSG targeting Suryakumar Yadav for captaincy
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants are targeting a move for Suryakumar Yadav from the Mumbai Indians. As per a report in Sports Tak, LSG are interested in Suryakumar and are considering him for a leadership role after letting go of Rishabh Pant.
LSG traded Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals in exchange for Kuldeep Yadav earlier this year. LSG made Pant the most expensive player in IPL history after paying a whopping Rs 27 crore to sign him in the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, they struggled under the wicket-keeper batter’s captaincy.
Having released Pant, LSG are now trying to bring Suryakumar from MI to hand him the leadership role. However, as per Sports Tak, Mumbai Indians are unlikely to let go of both Hardik and Suryakumar in the same trade window. Suryakumar’s move to LSG can only materialise if MI decide to retain Hardik ahead of the IPL 2027 auction.
