Google Pixel 12 leak hints at major display and software upgrades

Time flies in the smartphone industry. Google recently launched its flagship series-the Pixel 11 lineup-in August. Now, leaks regarding the next generation, the Pixel 12 series, are beginning to circulate online. While the Pixel 12 series isn’t expected to debut until August 2027, tech giants like Google begin preparations well in advance. A new report suggests the company is already testing the phones and gearing up for its next big Pixel moment.

According to OvrPlus, four Google phones have appeared in the GSMA IMEI database, offering a first glimpse at what could be the Pixel 12 lineup. The listings reportedly include the standard Pixel 12, Pixel 12 Pro, Pixel 12 Pro XL, and Pixel 12 Pro Fold models. The appearance of these devices in the database does not confirm their final specifications, but it does indicate that development is already underway.

The Pixel 12 is said to be listed with the model number GC0QU, while the Pixel 12 Pro bears the number GWU59. The larger Pixel 12 Pro XL reportedly appeared as G7U1Y, and the foldable Pixel 12 Pro Fold model was spotted with the model number G4D5D.

What to expect from the upcoming Pixel 12 series

The display could be one of the most interesting aspects of the Pixel 12 series. According to leaks, the Pixel 12 might arrive with a 1080 x 2400-pixel screen, while the Pixel 12 Pro could offer a resolution of 1280 x 2824. The Pixel 12 Pro XL is expected to reach even higher figures, with a resolution of 1344 x 2952.

However, the Pixel 12 Pro Fold appears to be the most interesting model. Reports indicate its inner display has a resolution of 2296 x 2404. For comparison, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold reportedly featured an inner display resolution of 2076 x 2152. If the leak is accurate, Google could be preparing a noticeably sharper display for its next foldable device.

There is also an intriguing detail regarding the software. Apparently, the Pixel 12 series is being tested with Android 18, even though the phones aren’t scheduled for release until August 2027. Since Google controls both the Pixel hardware and the Android software, these early tests could help the company refine the experience well before the devices reach consumers’ hands.

For now, all this information should be treated with caution. The Pixel 12 series launch is still a long way off, and specifications may change during development. Nevertheless, if these early details are any indication, Google already has its next-generation Pixel in the testing phase.
