Full Dress Rehearsal Underway At Red Fort Ahead Of 80th Independence Day
A full dress rehearsal took place on Thursday in the Red Fort of New Delhi ahead of the celebrations of the 80th Independence Day of India on August 15. India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day on 15th August 2026.
The rehearsal was held to make sure that all preparations for the national events are ready. There were security people, armed forces contingents and others who were involved in the arrangements at the historic site.
The main ceremony of Independence Day will be held in the Red Fort where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and address the nation. It will also have ceremonial proceedings and performances to celebrate the event.
Security has been ramped up in and around the Red Fort has been and the authorities have taken extensive measures to ensure a smooth conduct of the event. Preparations are also expected to cause traffic congestion and restrictions in several parts of central Delhi.
The full-dress rehearsal takes place two days prior to Independence Day, giving officials and participating teams a chance to coordinate the various aspects of the ceremony, and to resolve any logistical issues prior to the event.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued detailed notice and diversions of roads to keep traffic under check during the two major celebrations of Independence Day on 15th August and during the full dress rehearsal on 13th August.
In the context of the plans, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) DK Gupta said various restrictions have been put in place to ensure smooth traffic movement and minimize inconveniences to the public.
The traffic advisory says that the automobiles will not be permitted in the city from evening of 12 August till around 10-11pm on 13 August. Business vehicles, however, that have critical functions will be exempt.
As per security and traffic management, there will be diversions at key routes such as Rajpath, Tilak Marg and routes for the movement of VIPs in Lutyens’ Zone as well.
