Forensic Evidence Boosts Delhi Bus Gang-Rape Probe; Fingerprints Of Survivor, Accused Found
The investigation into the alleged gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl inside a moving sleeper bus has gained momentum after Delhi Police reportedly recovered crucial fingerprint evidence from the vehicle. Investigators are awaiting the DNA report before filing the charge sheet.

Fingerprints of the survivor and the two men accused have been found inside the bus where the alleged assault is said to have happened, ANI reports. The clothes of the bus driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep have been also seized as part of the forensic investigation.
Forensic samples were reportedly collected from various parts of the bus, including the seats and steering wheel. Police are now waiting for the report on the DNA analysis which may give additional scientific evidence in relation to how the accused may be connected to the crime. The charge sheet is also expected soon to be filed by the investigators.
These results reportedly confirmed the police’s evaluation that the victim and the accused were inside the bus during the incident. However, officials are relying on the DNA results to establish a stronger forensic connection with the alleged sexual assault.
The case involves a Class 11 student who allegedly had a quarrel with her family and left home and boarded a sleeper bus en route to Delhi from Greater Noida. Police said the driver and conductor tried to assist her prior to getting on the bus.
The teen was allegedly attacked on the bus and abandoned near Kashmere Gate. The two suspects were then arrested and the bus was placed under police custody.
The only way investigators have been able to go is by the forensic evidence since the internal CCTV cameras on the bus were said to be not working at the time of the incident. Police are also looking at statements from witnesses and CCTV from various locations on the route.
The mishap has put into question the safety of passengers on private interstate buses in the Delhi-NCR region. In the course of the investigation, it is reported that the bus was in possession of multiple traffic challans in Uttar Pradesh and questions have also arisen related to the verification and background checks of its employees.
The National Human Rights Commission has stored the case file and asked for the report from the Commissioners of Delhi and Gautam Budh Nagar police and the investigation and help rendered to the survivor.
The Delhi government also made it more stringent on the safety norms for buses after the incident. The operators have been instructed to make sure the panic buttons are working and that the vehicle-tracking system is on, and curtains and tinted films that block the view have been banned.
Investigators are still working to connect the forensic and circumstantial evidence in the case before they are able to complete his case against the accused.
