Fake Instagram profile allegedly used to lure teen girl, Mumbai student arrested

New Delhi: Early Tuesday morning Nagpur police arrested 20-year-old business student Nirmay Madhav Pakhare from Thane for allegedly kidnapping assaulting and stabbing a Class 12 student. Pakhare who comes from a influential family of doctors and an IPS officer relative met the girl on Instagram last year using a fake identity named Akash Mehra.

The victim went missing for nearly 24 hours with her phone turned off prompting her parents to report it to the authorities. Police launched a 20-hour search operation and tracked her down to a rented apartment in south Nagpur.

Girl rescued with injuries, accused taken into custody

When officers raided the flat they found the girl tied up with multiple injuries and recovered a knife from the room while arresting Pakhare on the spot.

Following the rescue the victim was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital for medical treatment while police took Pakhare into custody at Hudkeshwar police station.

Cyber team tracks suspect after missing complaint

Investigators revealed that the accused used her private pictures to blackmail her into a relationship. He had rented the Dighori flat beforehand and had brought her there on Sunday morning keeping her locked inside for over 24 hours before officers broke in.

The investigation started after the girl father reported her missing. Cybercrime officers analyzed her Instagram activity traced the suspect back to Thane and used a phone call from his mother to pin down his exact location in Dighori. Nagpur police inspector Anamika Mirzapure said the court ordered the accused to be held in police custody for two days. His parents arrived in Nagpur from Thane after hearing the news. We are checking his phone, Instagram account and other devices to see if he has done something like this before Mirzapure told the Hindustan Times.
