Fake IAS officer arrested in Bihar; police seize Tesla, imported liquor

New Delhi: A man accused of posing as an IAS officer and claiming links with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has been arrested in Bihar’s Khagaria district. Police also recovered a Tesla, an SUV, imported liquor and several other items from his residence.

The accused, identified as Manish Gupta, was arrested on Sunday after police received information about his alleged activities, as reported by PTI. Khagaria Superintendent of Police Bhanu Pratap Singh said Gupta lived in Jamalpur, under the Gogri police station area.

Police alleged that Gupta had been presenting himself as a senior government official and was involved in fraudulent activities in different parts of Bihar. A raid at his residence led to his arrest and the recovery of several items.

Tesla and luxury items recovered

Among the items seized were a Tesla with a full self-driving feature and a Tata Safari. Police said the Tesla had a ‘Government of India’ board. More than 31 litres of imported foreign liquor, beer, five iPhones, 20 credit cards, eight debit cards and four cheque-books were also recovered.

The police also found two barasingha (swamp deer) horns at the residence. Their possession is punishable under the Wildlife Protection Act and officers are investigating how Gupta came to have them.

“The Tesla car with full self-driving technology feature is a rarity in India. We also recovered two horns of a barasingha (swamp deer), possession of which is punishable under the Wildlife Protection Act,” SP Singh said, according to PTI.

Claimed to work under Ajit Doval

During questioning, Gupta allegedly showed police a Central Vigilance Commission card and claimed he worked as an undercover agent under Doval. He also produced an identity card describing him as an IAS officer.

Police said preliminary checks found both claims to be false and investigators are now examining the source of Gupta’s assets and documents recovered during the raid.
