Elderly man dies in old age home, daughters join last rites remotely

New Delhi: A man who spent his life educating his three daughters died at an old age home in Sonipat. His three daughters were unable to attend his last rites. Instead, they attended through video conference from Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai and Nepal.

Originally hailing from Mumbai, Shivcharan Ram Ratan Gupta was a textile trader. He was living in an old-age home along with his wife. His wife Meena, with whom he moved into the old-age home, died earlier. Gupta passed away around 3:30 AM on Tuesday. After his death, the old-age home contacted his three daughters.

Daughters joined father’s cremation through video conference

However, the daughters could not reach Sonipat. They, instead, joined the cremation of their father through video conference. The cremation was carried out by the old age home and locals. As per the old age home, Gupta used to talk to his daughters frequently on phone. But after he became ill, the frequency of their calls became less. They were informed about his health around 20 days before his death. But they were unable to come and see him.

Daughter paid the old age home for cremation

After his death, the management of the old age home contacted the three daughters and told them that the cremation could be held only when they reach for the cremation. But instead, they were unable to come and joined their father’s last rites remotely.

One of the three daughters, Anita paid Rs 5,100 to the old age home and urged them to conduct the last rites properly. The daughters also asked the old age home to immerse the ashes in Ganga. As per the old age home, Gupta spent his life for the education of his three daughters. Of his three daughters, two went on to become teachers. All three daughters are married. Also, his eyes have been donated as per his daughters’ wishes.
