Delhi Cops Allege Congress Workers Kicked Them

A lot of noise was made when the Delhi police had to use force when the protest march towards Parliament by AAP leader CJP took place at Jantar Mantar, and the opposition raised hue and cry over the alleged “brutality” of men in uniform and conveniently ignored the injuries that were caused to over 100 police, RAF, and CRPF personnel and the shameful acts of some hooligans who tried to unzip their pants.

But here are some policemen who were again beaten by Congress activists on Wednesday when they were doing their duty to detain the party workers who were staging a protest on the road opposing SIR and demanding the resignation of CEC Gyaneshwar Kumar.

Recounting what they suffered, some Delhi Police personnel, including a woman constable, narrated their ordeal while containing the surging crowd during the last two days of agitation. The officers claimed that they were kicked and punched by the mob.

Deependra Sandhu, a Delhi Police Constable, said that he was assaulted while trying to control the unruly protesters on Wednesday.

“They (protesters) deliberately targeted us because we were informing everyone that Section 163 was in force in the area and that they could not protest here. Suddenly, they went behind us and pulled us from behind. They then pushed us to the ground and started kicking and punching us and soon left the protest site. We somehow managed to protect ourselves and get away,” he recalled.

“The man who pulled me down from behind and kicked me was wearing white clothes,” he said.

Other police personnel, Head Constable Bhupendra Ahlawat, had a similar tale to share. He, too, was attacked allegedly by Congress workers while he was in police uniform. He called it a planned attack as the attacker was allegedly given a “cover and escape route” by the protesting party workers. He said he was intentionally kicked and pulled from behind by his waist and made him fall. He said when he turned around to see who it was, the Congress workers hid him. They took him to the green area in the middle of the roundabout and deliberately made him leave after asking him and hiding him, he said.

Seema, a woman Constable who was trying to detain the protestors at Akashvani Bhavan on Tuesday, said that she was assaulted during the INDIA bloc protest.

“It is our duty to follow the instructions given by our officers. At that time, we do not pay attention to whether we are getting injured. I realised only later that I had been injured. This happened at Akashvani Bhavan, when we were detaining the legislators. They were the MLAs who were sitting with Priyanka Gandhi,” she added.

As the video of Rahul Gandhi pushing a woman constable and allegedly groping her has gone viral, the Congress party spokesperson Masood Imran said that, as leader of the party, he was trying to protect the woman protester from being beaten by the police. But the BJP was levelling baseless allegations.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have lodged multiple FIRs over alleged misbehaviour, manhandling and assault of its personnel by the Opposition workers, while they adhered to security protocols and strived to maintain order amid difficult circumstances.
