CWG 2026: Jadumani Singh marches into Round of 16 as Lovlina Borgohain assures medal
New Delhi: Jadumani Singh Mandengbam kicked off India’s boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on a high note, delivering a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Scotland’s Aaron Cullen in the men’s 55kg round of 32 on Friday.

Fighting in front of a loud home crowd, the 22-year-old reigning national champion controlled the bout early on. Conceding a height and reach advantage to Cullen, Jadumani took charge in the opening two rounds with sharp footwork, aggressive jabs, and quick combinations. He received 10s from all five judges across every round, while Cullen received 9s. In the final round, the Indian managed his energy and relied on solid defence to seal a composed, tactical win.
The transition to the 55kg division marks a major turning point for Jadumani. He previously competed in the 50kg category, routinely shedding nearly 10 kilograms before tournaments, which compromised his strength, recovery, and peace of mind.
Unburdened by extreme weight cuts, his renewed energy and confidence were on full display in Glasgow. Speaking about the weight class switch, Jadumani told PTI, “I was confident that I could do well in 55kg. Now I have had the experience of two-three competitions in this category and become the champion. So I feel better than before.”
Clash with Pakistan awaits in Round of 16
The victory sets up a high-stakes round-of-16 clash for Jadumani, who will take on Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Indian boxing contingent is already assured of returning home with a medal, even before several fighters take to the ring.
Lovlina Borgohain guaranteed medal in 75kg division
The olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain has been placed directly into the women’s 75kg semi-finals. With only five boxers competing in her weight category, the 28-year-old was handed a bye straight to the last four, guaranteeing her at least a bronze medal.
