Commonwealth Games 2026 Highlights, Day 3: Indian women gymnasts finish fifth as Putul Sonowal suffers first defeat

India at Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 Highlights, Day 3: India will look to build on the momentum from an eventful second day in the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Saturday, July 25. The Indian contingent finally opened its medal account on Friday, with para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar winning a bronze in the men’s heavyweight event.

Apart from him, Boxer Jadumani Singh has also advanced to the pre-quarterfinals with a brilliant victory against Scotland’s Aaron Cullen. The women’s pair of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki secured their second victory in a row in the lawn bowls. Putul Sonowal also continued his unbeaten run in the men’s singles to boost India’s knockout hopes.

Indian swimmers failed to challenge for medals despite Srihari Nataraj qualifying for the men’s 50m backstroke semifinals. Para powerlifters Ashok Malik, Jaspreet Kaur and Suman Devi also fell short of podium finishes. India suffered a massive setback before the Commonwealth Games began with the doping-related suspension of judoka Tulika Maan, who was one of the country’s leading medal contenders.

On Day 3, Swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra will begin their men’s 400m freestyle campaigns. Boxer Sachin will start his campaign in the men’s 60kg category, while the Indian women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team continues its Pool B campaign against Wales.
