‘Chitta a major issue’: Rahul Gandhi holds ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Punjab

Sangrur: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Punjab on several fronts and called ‘chitta’ a major problem in the state. Addressing the ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Punjab’s Sangrur district, the Congress leader also claimed that the AAP Government in Punjab is run from Delhi.

“Many years back, I had said that drugs are spreading in Punjab. The BJP and the Akali Dal at that time said Rahul Gandhi does not know anything about Punjab, downplaying the drug menace. Today, ‘chitta’ (adulterated heroin) is a major issue in the state,” news agency PTI quoted him as saying.

‘People need govt that works for Punjab’

He added, “People need a government that works for Punjab. Not like AAP, which is run from Delhi. Tell me, which poll promises did it fulfil?” Rahul asked the crowd, urging them to vote for Congress for jobs and a drugs-free Punjab.”

Among those who were also present at the rally were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, its Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot, state Congress chief Pargat Singh, and senior state leaders Partap Bajwa, Vijay Inder Singla, Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.

Rahul Gandhi reiterates challenge for open debate to PM Modi

Reiterating his challenge for an open debate to PM Narendra Modi over the latter’s allegation calling Congress an anti-national, he said, “Come anywhere, sit with me and debate.” Hitting out at the BJP further, he added, “They say have a discussion in Parliament, but you switch off my mic; you don’t let me speak in Parliament.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the government was ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, challenging the opposition parties to participate in the discussion.
