CEC Gets Z Plus Security as Congress Intensifies Protests

Delhi police are learnt to have filed another FIR (46th) against for obstructing policemen on duty on Wednesday from performing their duty when he, along with Priyanka Gandhi, staged a flash protest at Windsor Place as they were prevented from going to Jantar Mantar, the designated place for protests. The police stopped them since they had no permission to stage a protest there. Police said the designated place does not mean that one can hold a protest without permission.

The police also alleged that Constable Ankit Kasana was attacked by about 35 Congress activists, and he suffered injuries to his chest when attacked by the mob. His uniform was also torn, they said.

The Congress party was slammed by the BJP over a video that has gone viral on social media in which Rahul Gandhi is seen pushing a woman constable while she was trying to lift Priyanka Vadra, who was lying on the road. Rahul is seen touching her at several places in the video. The BJP says this has exposed the real face of Congress. Is this what he meant by “smash patriarchy,” they asked. They also termed the Congress protest an anarchist act.

Reacting to the anarchist comment, Congress leader, P Chidambaram said there was no merit in the anarchist charge by BJP national president Nitin Nabin. He said the EC has been taking unilateral and biased decisions.

The former minister said BJP was defending the indefensible. Responding sharply to the ‘ghuspathiyas’ (infiltrators) claim, Chidambaram asked, “If those names that were deleted from the electoral rolls are those of ‘infiltrators’, why is the ECI holding special camps to re-enrol the ‘left out’ names?”

Meanwhile, a large number of Congress workers and activists gathered at the restaurant where party president Mallikarjun Kharge hosted lunch for opposition MPs, and there was a minor scuffle between the Congress activists and the police.

The MPs, who would soon leave for Rajghat and Rahul Gandhi is likely to address a press conference there.
