BEE calls for united push towards Net Zero goal
Hyderabad: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has called upon all stakeholders from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other States and Union Territories to contribute their might for achieving India’s Net Zero carbon emissions target by 2070 to ensure economic sustainability, environmental protection and safeguard the interests of future generations.

The target was set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the COP26 summit at Glasgow. The government is making efforts to scale up green hydrogen production and securing over $10.1 trillion in investments in renewable energy to achieve the target, according to unofficial estimates.
Addressing the national workshop on Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) in Hyderabad, Secretary, BEE under the Ministry of Power, Milind Deore said India has set an ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel (NFF) sources by 2030. As on June 30, 2026, India’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity had already reached around 297.37 GW, accounting for nearly 59.5 per cent of the target.
“The immediate focus of our energy transition must be on expanding clean energy capacity and promoting clean and energy-efficient cooking technologies that benefit both individuals and society,” he said.
Highlighting the strategic importance of electric cooking, Deore pointed out that while India has achieved near-universal LPG access through flagship initiatives such as the PM Ujjwala Yojana, the country continues to remain heavily dependent on LPG imports.
