BCCI to seek government clearance for white-ball tour of Bangladesh

New Delhi: is set to seek the government’s permission and clarity over the , with cricketing ties between the two countries still strained after a turbulent year.

A top BCCI source told India Today that the board cannot take a decision on the Bangladesh tour on its own at this stage and will approach the government for guidance.

“We are working on it and will seek permission and clarity as far as the Bangladesh tour is concerned. We can’t take any decision on our own at this stage. No decision has been taken yet, but we will soon approach the government,” the source said.

The BCCI source further confirmed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also wrote a letter to the BCCI and that the two boards remain in regular communication over the proposed series.

“The BCB has written to us, and they are in constant touch with us. Soon there will be more clarity,” the source added.

Proposed tour schedule

The BCB has set an August 29 to September 15 window for the proposed white-ball tour against India. The revised itinerary includes three ODI matches and three T20I games. The ODIs are scheduled to be played on September 1, 3 and 6, followed by T20I games on September 9, 12 and 13. The Men in Blue are expected to land in Bangladesh on August 28. However, it remains subject to the Government of India’s clearance.

The cricketing ties between both countries hit a new low when the BCCI directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad. The development triggered a strong backlash and reaction in Bangladesh.

Just a few days later, the BCB decided that its national team would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 due to security concerns and advice from the Bangladesh government. The board also asked the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches from India to Sri Lanka.

The Bangladesh government then ordered an indefinite ban on the broadcast and promotion of the IPL in the country following the Mustafizur controversy. But the BCB is now pushing for the tour and has remained in constant contact with the BCCI, hoping that it can go ahead and help restore normal cricketing ties between both countries.
