31-year-old runner dies during Nandi Hills monsoon marathon, suspected cardiac arrest

New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded during the Nandi Hills Monsoon Marathon on Sunday when a 31-year-old participant died after collapsing during the race.

The deceased has been identified as Amandeep Singh Jagade, a native of Punjab who was residing in Bengaluru. He was reportedly employed with a private company at Manyata Tech Park.

Amandeep was participating in the 21-km marathon when he collapsed on the Nandi Hills stretch. He was immediately rushed to the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Hospital in Muddenahalli. However, doctors could not save him.

A suspected cardiac arrest is believed to have caused his death, although the exact cause will be established through the appropriate medical procedures.

Had covered only half the distance

According to reports, Amandeep had completed only around half of the 21-km route when he collapsed.

Police are currently waiting for his wife, who is based in Bengaluru. His body remains at the hospital pending the arrival of his family and completion of the necessary procedures.

Interestingly, Amandeep had shared an Instagram post related to the marathon before the event. In the post, he reportedly wrote that God was with him during his 21-km run.

Over 4,500 participants took part

The Nandi Hills Monsoon Marathon was organised in two categories — 10 km and 21 km — and attracted more than 4,500 athletes.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Karnataka government, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, and the district administrations of Chikkaballapur and Bengaluru Rural.

The incident has cast a shadow over the sporting event, with further details regarding the runner’s death expected after the completion of the medical and police procedures.
