Bad mobile calls? TRAI MyCall app wants users to rate their network
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released a revamped version of its TRAI MyCall app, giving mobile users a direct way to rate voice calls and report network problems. The Android app collects feedback after calls and shares anonymised findings with TRAI and telecom operators.

The update comes at a time when India has over 100 crore telecom subscribers and voice calls remain a basic test of mobile network quality. Call drops, broken audio and long connection times are still familiar problems. The app gives consumers a place to record such issues, though it does not work like a formal complaint portal that promises individual resolution.
What can users report on the TRAI MyCall app?
Users can rate a completed voice call on a scale of one to five stars. They can then select the problem they faced, including:
- Call drops
- Echo during a call
- Delayed audio
- Broken or unclear voice
- Cross connections
- One person being unable to hear the other
- Calls taking too long to connect
The app can display an automatic feedback prompt after a call. It also keeps a feedback history on an interactive map and includes a coverage test for checking signal strength.
TRAI says submitted feedback is shared with the respective telecom service provider in anonymised form. The regulator expects operators to use this data to identify weak areas and take corrective steps.
App needs call log and contact permissions
The Google Play listing says TRAI MyCall requires access to call logs and contacts so users can identify received and dialled calls before submitting feedback. TRAI states that the feedback is stored anonymously without linking it to contact or call-log details. The application has crossed five lakh downloads on Google Play.
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said, “Every telecom consumer experiences network quality first-hand.”
The app gives the regulator consumer-reported data alongside technical network measurements. This could help show the difference between what an operator’s systems report and what a caller actually hears.
TRAI MyCall is currently available for Android devices through Google Play. TRAI’s official app information describes it as a crowdsourced system for collecting real-time voice-call quality ratings and related network data.
