Assam floods: Salman Khan launches relief campaign, Alia Bhatt and others extend support
New Delhi: Bollywood star has launched a phased relief campaign to provide food, medicines and essential supplies. Actress Alia Bhatt also took to social media to urge citizens to contribute to relief efforts.

Assam has been battling one of the worst floods since mid-July after relentless rains. The floods displaced lakhs of residents, claimed dozens of lives and caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. Upper Assam has been the worst-affected region.
Salman Khan launches relief campaign
Actor has launched a multi-phase humanitarian initiative through his charitable foundation, Being Human. According to a source quoted by India Today close to the actor, the initiative focuses on both immediate assistance and long-term rehabilitation.
The first phase of the campaign has already begun with volunteers distributing ready-to-eat food packets and other food essentials in the flood-affected areas of Assam. The initiative will also be distributing ration kits, temporary shelter assistance and support for rebuilding schools and hospitals damaged by the floods in the coming weeks.

The relief effort also distributes medicines, drinking water, sanitary pads, and mosquito repellents to families struggling due to floods.
Alia Bhatt urges to contribute to Assam relief efforts
Taking to Instagram, Alia Bhatt urged people to contribute to relief campaigns in Assam-hit regions. She wrote, “Right now, floods are affecting so many parts of our country with Assam being among the hardest hit, facing an incredibly challenging time. More than 60 lives have been lost. Lakhs of people have been displaced. Entire families have lost their homes, their land, their livestock… and for some, even the people they love.”
“She added, “It happens every year and it still catches us off guard. Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery.If you’ve been wondering how you can help, I’ll be sharing a few ways we can support relief efforts over the next few days, through organisations working on the ground. #CircleOfHope,” she added.
Bhumi Pednekar
Actress Bhumi Pednekar has also been helping the people of Assam through her organisation, Bharat Disaster Relief Foundation (BDRF).
In an Instagram video, she said, “Hello everyone. We all know what’s happening in the country right now, and I salute the spirit and determination everyone has shown. But there’s one part of the country that urgently needs our attention – Assam. Assam has been devastated by severe floods. The situation is so dire that over 750,000 people have been evacuated, more than 40 people have lost their lives, and the death toll continues to rise. Entire villages have been washed away. Livestock has been swept away, and people have lost everything they owned.”

“Not many people are talking about this, but I truly believe that, just like last year, when people across Punjab, Jammu, Bihar, Maharashtra, and the rest of the country came together and showed an incredible sense of community service by sending supplies and making donations, it’s time for us to do that again. This time, Assam needs us,” she added.
Apart from them, several celebrities have extended their support, including Raashi Khanna, Guru Randhawa, Papon, Adil Hussain, and Adah Sharma.
