Amruta bags silver at U-23 World Wrestling Championships

Hyderabad: Indian wrestler Amruta clinched a silver medal in the women’s 72 kg category at the ongoing Under-23 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas.

After two consecutive pinfall victories in the earlier rounds, Amruta faced a tough challenge in the final against Ukraine’s Iryna Zablotska. Despite a spirited effort, the Indian wrestler lost 0-6 in the gold-medal bout to finish second.

Amruta’s silver takes India’s overall medal tally at the championships to three. She joins Komal, who secured a bronze medal in the women’s 59 kg category, and Vishvajit More, who earlier claimed India’s first-ever silver medal in the Greco-Roman 55 kg event at the Under-23 level.
