Airtel withdraws ₹299 prepaid plan after year-long price hike

Last year, Airtel raised the price of its most affordable prepaid recharge plan, which included high-speed internet, unlimited calls, and other perks. A year after that significant price increase, the telecom operator has withdrawn its ₹299 plan, removing it from both its website and the Airtel Thanks app. The ₹299 plan has been replaced by the ₹349 plan as the company’s cheapest option, offering similar benefits along with some additional advantages. Meanwhile, an industry source claims the company has also discontinued its ₹579 and ₹619 prepaid recharge packs.

Airtel withdraws its cheapest plan with unlimited calls and data

The operator has updated its website to remove the ₹299 prepaid recharge plan from its offerings. This plan provided unlimited calls, unlimited data, and a daily allowance of 1 GB of 5G and 4G data, valid for 28 days. Additionally, it included a quota of 100 text messages (SMS) per day, free personalised ringtones, and a subscription to Perplexity Pro AI.

This means the ₹349 recharge plan becomes Airtel’s most affordable prepaid pack in the country. The plan offers unlimited local and STD calls, unlimited data with a 2 GB daily limit, and an allowance of 100 SMS messages per day. It also comes with a 28-day validity period. Subscribers can enjoy a free six-month subscription to Apple Music, as well as free Airtel ringtones and 12 months of Adobe Express Premium. Users can also opt for the ₹399 prepaid recharge pack, which offers the same benefits but comes with a higher daily high-speed data allowance of 2.5 GB. Additionally, it includes a 28-day mobile subscription to JioHotstar instead of the Apple Music subscription. As previously mentioned, the company raised the price of the ₹249 recharge pack to ₹299 last August.

Airtel reportedly withdraws two other prepaid plans

Meanwhile, tipster Sanju Choudhary (@saaaanjjjuuu) shared in a post on X that Airtel has also withdrawn its ₹579 and ₹619 prepaid recharge plans. He states that the plans have been withdrawn in the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand service areas (circles) and expects the telecom provider to remove them from other regions as well. However, it is worth noting that members of the Gadgets 360 team were able to locate both recharge packs on the company’s website.
