Abhishek Banerjee’s PA probe: Allegations surface against Tulu Mondal as police expand investigation

New Delhi: The investigation into the alleged financial dealings and business empire of Birbhum businessman Mohammad Najibuddin alias Tulu Mondal has widened, with fresh allegations emerging against Sumit Roy, an aide to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee.

The allegations were made by Egra-based contractor Sheikh Muktajul, who claimed that Tulu Mondal exercised influence over government contract allocations not only in Birbhum but also in East Midnapore. According to him, large government contracts were allegedly awarded to Tulu’s companies, which were then subcontracted to smaller contractors.

Muktajul further alleged that after filing a legal case against Tulu Mondal over a road construction contract, he was called to Abhishek Banerjee’s office, where he was allegedly asked by Sumit Roy to withdraw the case. He claimed he was told that his concerns would be looked into if he dropped the legal proceedings.

The allegations have prompted fresh questions about whether there were links between Tulu Mondal’s business operations and influential political figures. However, no official findings have yet been made, and the claims have not been independently verified.

As the investigation continues, police are also examining Tulu Mondal’s alleged assets and financial records. Tulu Mondal is currently untraceable, with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleging that he may have fled abroad.

Meanwhile, police conducted a search at the residence of Tulu Mondal’s relative, Ifazul Haque, in Mangalkot in Purba Bardhaman district. Officers reportedly broke open locked cupboards and trunks during the search.

Investigators are also examining a red trolley bag recovered from the house. According to police, the bag may have previously contained documents related to Tulu Mondal’s businesses, but it was found empty during the search, raising suspicion that important records may have been removed before the raid.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet announced any conclusions regarding the allegations against Tulu Mondal or the individuals named in connection with the case.
