8-yr-old killed as rain triggers roof collapse
Jodhpur: The roof of a “dilapidated” two-storey house here collapsed Monday morning after incessant rainfall apparently weakened the structure, claiming the life of an eight-year-old girl while left three members of her family sustained serious injuries, officials said. Civic authorities have sealed the unsafe building, they adde.

The accident occurred around 5.30 am in the densely-populated Nagori Silawaton Ka Bas area under Sadar Bazar police station limits. According to Sadar Bazar Station House Officer Manak Ram Bishnoi, Mohammad Irfan’s family was asleep on the second floor of their two-storey house when four to five roof slabs collapsed.
The officer said the house was in a dilapidated condition and the continuous rainfall had further weakened the structure. Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing screams, removed the debris and rescued the trapped family.
The victims were taken to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, where doctors declared eight-year-old Alsifa dead. Irfan, his wife and their two-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment, the officer added.
Following the incident, the municipal corporation inspected the site and sealed the damaged house. Another unsafe building in the same lane was also sealed.
