Uttar Pradesh: Girl’s body exhumed from grave, 52 days after death – Know why

New Delhi: The body of a 16-year-old girl was exhumed from the grave in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh on Saturday. The girl had died 52 days back, but the body was dug out after suspicion was raised around the circumstances which led to her death, said a report in PTI.

The body was exhumed from the Shah Jamal Graveyard which falls under the Kotwali Police Station area. The City Magistrate Atul Gupta, a large police force and some other district officials were present at the graveyard during the entire process.

Fresh investigation ordered

The body was exhumed after the district administration ordered a fresh investigation into the death of the girl. Th order was passed following a complaint. The complaint was filed by a local, identified as Dularay Khan. According to him, while returning from a nearby mosque, he heard screams from a house on June 8. This was in the Shah Jamal area.

The man claimed that he walked in the direction of the house, from where the scream was coming from and knocked on the door. But he allegedly did not get any response. The next morning, the man learnt that a 16-year-old girl living in the house, died suddenly and had been buried, even before sunrise.

Khan said that he approached the local police but no action was taken. He also said that when he continued to make enquiries and pursued the matter, he allegedly received death threats.

Following the complaint, the District Magistrate, Avinash Kumar ordered an enquiry, reported the Times of India. The district administration ordered the police department to exhume the body of the girl.

The DM said that all legal formalities were followed before the body was exhumed. The body has now been sent for a post mortem examination, he added. A detailed investigation has also been launched in the girl’s death, added the senior official.
