Rishabh Pant trains with MS Dhoni ahead of Test series against Sri Lanka – WATCH
New Delhi: wicketkeeper-batter has started preparations for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which will begin on August 15. He was seen training with former India captain MS Dhoni in Ranchi. Pant is currently out of India’s ODI and T20I squads, but continues to be a crucial member of the Test side.

The wicketkeeper-batter is heading to Sri Lanka after a poor IPL season with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Leading the franchise in the 2026 edition, Pant scored 312 runs in the tournament at an average of 28.36 and a strike rate of 138.05 as LSG finished at the bottom of the points table. He played in India’s one-off Test match against Afghanistan, scoring 81 runs off 121 balls in Mullanpur in June.
In a video shared on social media, Pant was seen with MS Dhoni at a training facility in Ranchi. Later, former India spinner Shahbaz Nadeem also shared a picture, showing Pant and Dhoni training together at a gym.

Crucial WTC phase for India
The Men in Blue need to win their remaining seven matches to keep their hope of qualifying for the WTC final alive. The upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka is crucial, with India aiming for a 2-0 whitewash before touring New Zealand and hosting Australia.
MS Dhoni, meanwhile, have stayed away from competitive cricket after missing the entire IPL 2026 season due to persistent injury problems, and his participation in the next season also remains doubtful. CSK have failed to qualify for playoffs after winning the IPL trophy in 2023, and are set to restructure. Dhoni is expected to play a key role in the process and could also take control of cricket operations.
