Post-monsoon rains likely to be normal in Karnataka despite weak Southwest monsoon: IMD

New Delhi: Karnataka’s southwest monsoon has remained subdued due to a significant rainfall deficit, leaving farmers across the state facing growing concerns over crop losses. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the post-monsoon season is expected to bring normal rainfall.

Speaking to TV9, IMD Director C.S. Patil said that a low-pressure system has developed over Chhattisgarh, and its impact is expected to extend into Maharashtra. As a result, parts of Karnataka, particularly the coastal districts, Udupi, and Chikkamagaluru, are likely to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days.

He added that Kodagu and Mysuru districts are expected to witness moderate rainfall. Patil also noted that rising sea surface temperatures over the Pacific Ocean are contributing to favourable conditions for normal post-monsoon rainfall across the state.

The forecast comes as a relief for Karnataka’s farming community, which has been grappling with below-normal monsoon rains during the current season.
