Mark Zuckerberg predicts billions will have personal AI agents within five years

New Delhi: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes personal AI agents will become a part of everyday life over the next five years. Speaking during Meta’s latest quarterly earnings call, Zuckerberg said it is “extremely unlikely” that billions of people will not have an AI assistant that understands their goals and works for them around the clock.

According to Zuckerberg, these AI agents will go beyond answering questions. They could help users manage finances, monitor health, handle household tasks, and even improve personal relationships. He also said Meta expects WhatsApp and its other messaging platforms to play a major role as people increasingly interact with multiple AI agents.

AI agents are expected to become the next major platform

Zuckerberg’s comments come as major technology companies race to develop AI systems capable of completing tasks on behalf of users. Google has introduced custom AI agents in Search, while Anthropic continues to expand its Claude AI offerings. Meta is also pushing AI-powered business agents on WhatsApp and Messenger, with the company saying more than one million businesses have already adopted the service.

Massive AI investments continue despite financial pressure

Meta’s AI ambitions come with significant costs. The company continues to invest heavily in AI infrastructure and recently partnered with BlackRock to build a $14 billion data centre in El Paso, Texas. Zuckerberg said Meta sees a long-term opportunity in selling AI-powered intelligence while also offering computing services.

The company is facing pressure from investors as spending rises. Meta’s Reality Labs division posted another multibillion-dollar quarterly loss, while free cash flow fell sharply year over year due to increased AI investments. Despite the costs, Zuckerberg said personal AI agents will form the foundation of Meta’s next generation of products and future revenue streams.
