‘AIIMS report mentioned Pellet Gun use’: Rahul Gandhi on student protests

New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday said that AIIMS report that talked about the recent attacks on students protesting at mentioned the use of pellet guns. He added that these guns are not only lethal but have the potential to even kill the person. He also called for Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation.

Addressing the press conference in the national capital, the Congress leader said that he was not allowed to speak in the Parliament today. Notably, his speech earlier in the day was cut short following a ruckus during his speech and the Lok Sabha was adjourned till tomorrow.

“When we were at Parliament House, I saw with my own eyes, Amit Shah calling the police officers… I saw Minister Jitendra Singh getting multiple calls from the Home Minister… He was aware of everything happening on the streets. There are 2 possibilities – one is that he gave the orders to shoot people with pellet guns, beat them with lathis with nails… or he did not know what was happening. If he did not know, he is incompetent; and if he ordered it and he has got to go in either case,”

Would never apologise to BJP or RSS: Rahul Gandhi

“The Leader of Opposition was not allowed to speak in Lok Sabha even though ministers were permitted. I was asked to apologise in the Parliament. However, I would never apologise to the BJP or RSS,” he added.

Talking about pellet guns, the former Congress president said, “Students were brutalised. They were attacked with pellet guns. Those who attacked them with pellet guns report to Home Minister Amit Shah. It’s my right as LoP to raise matters of public importance. It is important for me for me to raise the brutalities against students.”

‘A pellet gun can kill a person’

“A pellet gun can kill a person. It is a lethal weapon, which causes loss of life. It is also mentioned in the AIIMS report. I gave evidence; even then they are calling it a lie. I also wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah on July 25. I raised with him the issue of the brutality against students”, he said.

The Congress leader added, “The bill tabled by the government on the Paper Leak Bil, do not contain any provision to curb paper leaks”. Pointing out that students are distressed due to paper leaks, he added that the paper leak mafia has never been punished.
