UP shocker: Woman strangles 3-year-old son to death while on phone with lover

New Delhi:  A 32-year-old woman in Mathura was booked for allegedly strangling her three-year-old son to death last month because the child would not stop crying while she was talking to her alleged lover, police said on Tuesday.

The truth came out after the woman’s husband overheard her telling her lover about the incident on Monday. She later confessed to her family and the police, they said. The police stated that the incident occurred on June 28 in Chhauli village under the Baldev police station area.

The boy’s father, Krishna Murari Gupta, who runs a medical store, was at his shop when his wife, Ruchi Jindal, phoned him. She claimed that their son had become unwell after crying for a long time and was not responding.

The family rushed the child to several doctors and then to a private hospital in Mathura, where doctors declared him dead.

Believing the child died from a reaction to polio drops given earlier that day, the family buried the body without suspecting any crime.

Police said the truth came out on Monday when Krishna Murari said he overheard his wife talking about the boy’s death on the phone.

The child’s uncle, Govind Gupta, checked her call history and alleged that she had been speaking to a man for long hours regularly.

Baldev Station House Officer Ajay Sharma confirmed that a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered based on a complaint filed by Govind Gupta.

The SHO noted that the woman has not been arrested yet, and further action will depend on the post mortem report.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Rai said the child’s body will be exhumed for a post-mortem examination, and legal steps will follow based on the results.
