OTT releases this weekend: More films and shows to watch

This weekend brings a variety of film and web series to OTT platforms. Whether you are into action thriller, supernatural, family drama, anime and music; there is something for everyone. Below you will find a list of what is coming out on OTT this weekend, along with the date it is coming out, cast and plot.

I’m Game

I’m Game is an action thriller starring Dulquer Salmaan. The film follows Dan John (played by Dulquer) who is a rich and arrogant man addicted to gambling. After a serious accident results in Dan losing his hand, he is given a transplant from an unknown donor. However, it seems that the transplanted hand has a strange purpose. It is linked to a supernatural quest to help avenge the death of the previous owner. Dan gets pulled into a dangerous situation that he cannot control. This film is an action packed and exciting thriller that involves an unusual revenge plot.

Netflix

Dilwali Diwali

This family drama came out on Netflix this weekend. Directed by Ritesh Menon and produced by Terribly Tiny Tales; Dilwali Diwali explores the theme of family, how generational differences can cause issues and the importance of having a home. The film stars Mihir Ahuja as Ansh Sikka who has returned to India after providing financially for his family for many years. He wants to provide his loved ones with a better life so gifts them with a luxury apartment in a high rise building. However, his father (played by Manoj Pahwa) struggles to get on board with the idea of a home. He feels that a home should be filled with memories, relationships and feelings rather than luxuries. Neelu Kohli plays Ansh’s mother, whilst Aura Bhatnagar plays a supporting character. This film looks at how modern ideas can clash with traditional family values.

Jurassic World Rebirth

This science fiction adventure stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. It is now available to stream on Netflix in India and several international markets. The film follows Zora Bennett (played by Scarlett) who is a covert operations specialist sent to collect precious dinosaur DNA from an isolated island. However, things quickly turn dangerous as they encounter prehistoric creatures. This continues the popular dinosaur franchise with another exciting adventure. It originally had an exclusive streaming period on Peacock in the US, but became available on Netflix after Universal Pictures entered a licensing deal with the platform. The film enjoyed great success in Indian cinemas, grossing over ₹100 crore.

ZEE5

Last Man in Tower

This social drama stars Manoj Bajpayee and was released on ZEE5. Directed by Ben Rekhi; it follows the story based off Aravind Adiga’s novel from 2011. The film follows Yogesh Mishra (played by Manoj) who is an elderly teacher who refuses to leave his apartment to move to a redevelopment site. Boman Irani plays Dharmen Shah who is a wealthy builder interested in the apartment. Divya Dutta also appears in the show. This causes Yogesh to cause tension with the other members of the building as many are willing to take up the builder’s offer. The film looks at how money can cause issues when people have strong feelings towards having a home. It was produced by Rana Daggubati and others and looks at the struggles of property.

Meesaya Murukku 2

This film focuses on the music industry and family relationships. The film follows three generations of independent musicians and how they struggle to find their place in the industry. Dass (played by HipHop Tamizha Adhi) is a gaana singer in 1979. The film follows his son Tiger Siva who is an aspiring musician. It then moves onto the current generation focusing on his grandson Jeeva. The characters face issues with class divides, politics within the industry and the preference of classical music. The main focus of the film is how they want to keep their native sound but have to fight to be recognised. This film looks at the struggles that independent artists face.

Haiwaan

This action thriller follows Shyam who is a visually impaired building maintenance manager with amazing martial arts skills and heightened senses. However, his life gets turned upside down when his best friend Judge Pradhan (retired) tells him that a ruthless criminal called Parshuram has been released from jail. Parshuram is said to be targeting everyone involved with his previous conviction. The judge is concerned for his secret daughter Nandini and asks Shyam to protect her. However, Parshuram kills the judge and frames Shyam. Shyam must flee from the police whilst trying to protect Nandini. This film promises to be an exciting chase!

Amazon Prime Video

Devils’ Crest

This anime involves supernatural elements. Yuuma and his twin sister Sawa (sixth grader) decide to play a new virtual reality game called Actual Magic. However, things quickly turn scary as the virtual world merges with the real world. Their quiet town becomes a dangerous battleground. Yuuma must learn how to survive in this new world whilst battling giant creatures and classmates who have turned into scary monsters. This film looks at how the line between gaming and reality has blurred.

The Vvaan: Force of the Forest

This supernatural film focuses on nature. Rishi is an engineer who grew up in the city and returns to his ancestral village in Bihar to resolve a property issue. He is a rational person who does not believe in the traditional beliefs of the village. He ignores the warnings of the villagers about a sacred forest and enters it after sunset. This awakens an ancient divine goddess. Rishi must overcome his disbelief and find a way to save the villagers. He also faces a corrupt local politician who wants to destroy the sacred woodland to build a modern road. This film looks at folklore, mystery and saving nature.

The Mongoose

Liam Neeson returns to action with this film. Ryan “Fang” Flanagan (played by Liam) is a decorated military veteran who is falsely accused of murder. His problems worsen when he becomes the target of a live cross country chase. The chase includes a Mustang Shelby Super Snake and becomes an exciting fast paced adventure. The film is available to stream internationally including India. It has multiple language options including Telugu. Although the film sounds like an exciting action film it has received mixed to negative reviews.

This weekend there are plenty of films and shows to watch on OTT. There are films for every genre and language. Meesaya Murukku 2 focuses on music whilst I’m Game is an action packed supernatural film. Dilwali Diwali is a family drama and Jurassic World Rebirth is an exciting dinosaur adventure.
