Ambulance driver accused of using emergency vehicle to supply drugs; Rs 5 crore MDMA case uncovers network

New Delhi: An ambulance driver widely known for his social service in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district has come under police scrutiny after investigators alleged that he used his ambulance to transport and distribute narcotics.

According to the Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB), Jaleel alias Jaleel Baba, an ambulance driver from Belthangady, is suspected of being involved in a drug distribution network uncovered during the investigation into the seizure of 5 kg of MDMA worth an estimated Rs 5 crore.

Police said the allegations emerged while probing a narcotics case that began on June 25, when a suspect identified as Annappa Swamy alias Manu was arrested in Mangaluru with MDMA. During questioning, investigators allegedly received information indicating that the drugs were being transported from Delhi.

Acting on the leads, Mangaluru CCB officers raided a lodge in Bagalkote on July 15, arresting two suspects identified as Mohammed Alfaz and Mohammed Mustafa, both residents of Belthangady. During the operation, officers seized approximately 5 kg of MDMA valued at around Rs 5 crore.

According to the police investigation, the arrested men allegedly disclosed that the narcotics were being supplied to Jaleel Baba, who is accused of distributing the drugs locally.

Investigators further allege that Jaleel used his ambulance to transport and deliver the narcotics, supplying them to customers including doctors, students and young people. These allegations form part of the police investigation and are yet to be tested in court.

In a report submitted before the court, police stated that Jaleel is currently absconding. Authorities said his mobile phone has remained switched off for the past eight days, and special teams have been formed to trace and apprehend him.

The investigation into the alleged drug trafficking network is ongoing, and police are continuing efforts to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the operation.
