CM Samrat Chaudhary’s ‘there is crime, but no ‘apraadh’ in Bihar remarks leaves netizens amused

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has made a remark about crime statistics in the state, which has left netizens amused. He claimed that there was no crime in the state, but only apraadh.

The exact words of the CM were, “”Hamare yahan koi apraadh nahi hai. Apraadh ka concept hi khatam ho chuka hai. Crime ho sakte hain, lekin apraadh nahi, koi apraadhi nahi hai.” This when translated in English reads, “There is no crime here in Bihar. The very concept of crime has been eliminated. There may be a crime, but there is no apraadh. There are no criminals.”

Soon after the video of the event went viral and several Opposition leaders including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and Congress Party’s Pawan Khera took a swipe at the Bihar CM. They said that no one really understood what exactly was Chaudhary trying to say through his remarks at the function.

Sharing a video of the event, Leader of Opposition in Bihar, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav asked the IAS and IPS officers sitting on the stage whether they felt “honoured” or “humiliated” in working with such a person.

Yadav in his post also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asked whether the “PM had taken a contract to let Chaudhary ruin Bihar.”

Congress leader Pawan Khera on the other hand brought in claims of the PM over poverty rates in the country in his post, criticising the Bihar CM. He wrote on ‘X’, “Poverty ho sakti hai lekin gareebi nahi hai (there could be poverty but not gareebi.”

The Bihar Opposition leader, meanwhile, also highlighted CM Samrat Chaudhary’s criminal record. He said that the statement about a crime-free state was being made by a man himself accused of 7 murders. He said that this was the person, whom PM Modi had chosen to lead Bihar.

Chaudhary was once an RJD man. In fact he began his political career with the party. He has said in the past that he was falsely implicated in the murder case in his home district Munger, back in the 1990s.

RJD spokesperson, Ejaz Ahmed said that apraadh was simply the Hindi word for crime, and Chaudhary should have spoken to his officials and advisors, before making such a statement on stage, if he was unsure about its meaning.”

He added that such remarks highlight the lack of basic understanding among those occupying the highest offices in the state.
