‘After Gyanesh Kumar, you are next’: Rahul warns Modi, Shah of legal action over alleged ‘vote chori’

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of legal action over alleged electoral manipulation. He said the opposition would pursue them after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Speaking at the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, Gandhi accused the BJP of stealing votes in several state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Warning to PM Modi, Amit Shah

Gandhi referred to Shah’s assertion that Modi would remain in power and said the opposition would seek accountability from those it accused of manipulating elections.

“Amit Shah ji said Narendra Modi is not going anywhere. I am telling you the opposite: Narendra Modi cannot go anywhere. Even if he wants to leave, we will not let him go. After Gyanesh Kumar, we are going to stand right in front of you.

Legal action will be taken against them…” Rahul said.

He also claimed that Kumar would lose his position as Chief Election Commissioner and face imprisonment.

Allegations across several elections

Gandhi alleged that electoral manipulation had occurred across multiple states. He accused those involved of using electronic voting machines and changes to electoral rolls to steal votes.

“For years, vote theft has been happening in this country. Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in all these elections, vote theft has occurred.

Votes have been stolen through EVMs and by deleting and adding names to voter lists,” he said. Gandhi further alleged that such manipulation had helped Modi become Prime Minister and Shah become home minister.

Kharge also targets BJP

Gandhi described Kumar’s removal as the first step towards restoring democracy and protecting the Constitution. He linked his allegations about elections to broader concerns about access to opportunities and government benefits.

“We do not want a country that belongs only to two or three people,” he said.

He alleged that farmers, students and labourers had been denied their rightful opportunities and benefits. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the rally and accused the BJP of forming governments through stolen mandates. He said removing Modi from power was necessary to protect democracy.
