BCCI set to review India’s performance on UK tour in August

New Delhi: The is set to conduct a review of Team India’s performances in Ireland, England and Zimbabwe in early August, confirmed secretary Devajit Saikia. The board will also decide on the contracts of a couple of support staff members under head coach

The Men in Blue suffered their first-ever series defeat against Ireland in Belfast last month, before losing four of the five T20Is against England, with one match being called off due to rain. It was a stark turnaround for the Indian team from the highs of the March T20 World Cup title, with the squad now under the captaincy of new skipper Shreyas Iyer.

India also suffered a 1-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series against Harry Brook’s England, under Shubman Gill’s leadership. However, India, as expected, are leading the ongoing three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe 2-0.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the review will cover all the white-ball matches played recently, especially those in Ireland and England, where the Men in Blue virtually drew a blank, except for a solitary victory in one ODI against England.

“We will hold the review meeting in August,” the BCCI secretary told Cricbuzz, without revealing the exact date.

Ryan ten Doeschate seeks release, T Dilip’s future uncertain

He did not provide details about the scope of the review but confirmed that the BCCI would assess the contracts of a couple of support staff members. According to a Cricbuzz report, Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has requested the board to be relieved of his duties.

Doeschate has completed his initial two-year contract, and there is a possibility that the BCCI will accept his request. There is no immediate clarity on the future of the fielding coach T Dilip, who has received massive criticism due to the team’s fielding and catching being below par during the tour of the UK.
