Kolkata horror: 3 accused paraded without shirt by police after teen, father allegedly forced to walk naked
New Delhi: Three people arrested in connection with the alleged stripping and public humiliation of a teenage boy, his father and a friend in Kolkata were taken back to the scene of the incident on Tuesday. Police made the accused walk through the neighbourhood wearing shorts, two days after the alleged assault in the Sarsuna area.
The three accused, identified as the girl’s father, maternal uncle and elder brother, were taken to Khudiram Palli in Behala. They were reportedly bare-chested and barefoot, with ropes tied around their waists, during the exercise.
The police action came after videos showing the victims being forced to walk naked through the locality circulated on social media. Some residents described the move as instant justice, although the investigation into the case is still underway.
How the Kolkata incident unfolded
According to police, the incident took place on Sunday evening when a 17-year-old boy went to meet his minor girlfriend in the Sarsuna police station area with a friend. The girl’s family allegedly learnt about their meeting after the boy kissed her, which was reportedly witnessed by an acquaintance of the girl’s maternal uncle.
The information was passed on to the girl’s father and maternal uncle, who allegedly took the two boys to a house in Khudiram Palli. The teenager and his friend were reportedly confined and assaulted before the boy’s father was called to the house.
When the father arrived, he was allegedly attacked by several people. Police said the girl’s maternal uncle then presented him with a gun and demanded that he choose between shooting his own son and walking naked through the streets with him.
The victims allegedly agreed to the public humiliation because they feared for their lives. They were then forced to walk for around 50 metres along a lane outside the house while people recorded the incident on their mobile phones.
Police probe alleged assault and gun threats
Investigators are examining allegations that the victims were beaten with glass bottles, threatened with death and paraded at gunpoint. The reported use of a firearm is also part of the ongoing investigation.
The teenager’s mother was allegedly assaulted during the incident and later underwent a medical examination, according to the information provided.
The accused were taken back to the locality two days after the alleged assault as police continued their investigation. The allegations against them have not yet been established in court.
The incident has drawn attention after videos of the alleged humiliation spread online, while the police investigation continues to establish the sequence of events and the role of each accused.
