IPL 2027 auction scheduled for December 16 in Goa
New Delhi: The auction for the 2027 season is scheduled to be held in Goa on December 16. The day-long mini-auction will overlap with India’s second ODI match against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. According to a Cricinfo report, the auction will take place nearly a month after the November 15 retention deadline, which the IPL recently communicated to the franchises.

After the deadline passes, all ten franchises will receive the list of registered players and begin shortlisting their preferred options. The IPL will then set the final list of players, along with the order of sets, in the week leading into the auction.
Only two trades have happened in the IPL trade window since the 2026 season concluded. As per the IPL guidelines, the trade window opens a month after the conclusion of the season, remains open until a week before the auction date, and continues until a month before the start of the next season.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) traded their captain to Delhi Capitals (DC) for wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav in June 2026. Recently, DC also swapped pacer T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for uncapped legspinner Zeeshan Ansari.
IPL 2027 likely to begin in early March
The BCCI is also considering shifting the upcoming seasons of the IPL to an earlier window, with discussions to start the tournament around March 10 and end by May 15. The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had confirmed the development to PTI in June 2026.
“This year, IPL started around March 29th (28th), and it was over by May 31. Only thing which we are discussing is that during the fag end of the tournament after May 15…there is apprehension of having rainfall or pre-monsoon season starting,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI.
He further added that the board received complaints from players and fans about the heat in the northern and western parts of India during the IPL matches.
“There is a discussion going on in BCCI as well as in our IPL governing council regarding whether we can start the tournament a little bit earlier than the fag end of March. I’m hearing a lot of complaints from the fans as well as from the players, because not all players are very well equipped or well acclimatised to play in such hot conditions,” Saikia added.
This is the last mini-auction of the IPL’s ongoing cycle, with a mega auction set to take place ahead of the 2028 season. The next mega auction will also start the league’s next media rights cycle, though the BCCI is yet to release the tender.
