‘I disagree’: Nobody Wants This creator Erin Foster reacts to Adam Brody’s ‘free Palestine’ remark

New Delhi: creator Erin Foster has addressed Adam Brody’s public support for Palestine, saying that she disagrees with the actor but believes people can hold different opinions.

In an upcoming episode of Amanda Hirsch’s podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat, Foster was asked about Brody’s recent interview with GQ, in which he expressed support for a free Palestine and described the situation as genocide.

Erin Foster on Adam Brody’s ‘free Palestine’ remark

“It’s complicated,” Foster said, explaining that disagreements over political issues can exist even among people who work closely together. “While I love Adam, I also disagree with him, and that’s OK,” she added.

Adam Brody stars opposite Kristen Bell in the Netflix romantic comedy, which follows the relationship between Noah, a rabbi, and Joanne, a woman who is not Jewish. Foster said she wanted Jewish viewers to understand that she recognised their feelings about the debate.

She described the series as a “love letter to Judaism”, drawing on her own experience of converting to the religion before marrying her husband. Foster said she created the show to share the positive experiences she had as a Jewish person. She also stressed that people were entitled to their own opinions and that her intention with the series was to reflect her personal experience with Judaism.

“The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That is why I made this show. It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person. And sitting here right now, at this time in the world when there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that,” she said.

“Everyone is entitled to a different opinion. I can just tell you what I created this show for, and what the intention of the show is,” she added.

What Did Adam Brody Say About Palestine?

In his interview with GQ, Adam Brody said he had discussed the Israel-Gaza conflict privately but had not often spoken about it publicly. He explained that most of his interviews focused on his acting work, although he was willing to answer political questions when asked.

Adam Brody said, “I just answer the questions I’m asked. And it’s true. I’m not wearing a pin, so I’m not inviting a certain question, and perhaps I should. I really admire people who do. But 99% of what I’m asked about is about the show. I’m not trying to plead ignorance — here we are doing a political interview, so it makes sense that we wade into this territory — but I’ve never ducked a question, really, not a political question anyway.”

“Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago,” he said clearing his stance on the issue.

Brody, who grew up in a Jewish family, has previously said that he is not religious. His comments drew criticism from some viewers of Nobody Wants This, according to reports.
