‘I’ll probably be off…’: Jenna Ortega to take a break from TV after Wednesday final season?
New Delhi: Jenna Ortega may be ready for a change after spending years working in television. The star has said she will probably take a break from TV once the Netflix series comes to an end, as she wants to make room for new opportunities.

Ortega, who began her acting as a child, explained that she had spent years moving from one show to another. She now wants to give herself time to explore different projects rather than immediately signing up for another television series.
Jenna Ortega to take a break from TV?
Speaking on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, released on Thursday (October 22), Ortega said she had not received many offers for franchise projects. She also made it clear that she does not want to rush into her next role.
“But what I’m meant to do will come and find me,” the actor said, adding that she would “probably be off the TV for a while” after Wednesday.
“I was bouncing from show to show as a kid, this to this, and I want to leave time for new things,” she said.
Jenna Ortega’s career
Jenna Ortega started working in television in the early 2010s and gradually built a name for herself with roles in shows such as Jane the Virgin, Stuck in the Middle and You.
Her career took a major turn with Wednesday, in which she plays Wednesday Addams. The Netflix series introduced her to an even wider audience and established her as one of the recognisable young faces in Hollywood. She has also worked in films across different genres, including Iron Man 3 (2013), The Fallout (2021), X (2022) and Death of a Unicorn (2025).
Ortega has spoken openly about the pressure of growing up in the entertainment industry. Earlier this year, she recalled going an entire day without eating or drinking while working on a set as a child actor. She also revealed in an earlier interview that she had considered leaving acting before landing her role in You. At the time, she felt it might be the right moment to walk away from the profession.
Why Jenna Ortega left the Scream franchise
Jenna Ortega has stepped away from major projects before. She appeared in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023) but did not return for the next instalment, Scream VII.
In a 2025 interview with The Cut, she discussed her decision to leave the franchise. Her exit came amid the controversy surrounding the firing of her co-star Melissa Barrera, who had been dropped from the film series after social media posts about the Israel-Hamas war. Ortega also pointed to the departure of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
“The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart,” she told the publication, explaining that returning without the same creative team did not feel right for her at that point in her career.
