Harry Brook smashes fastest double century in ODI history, breaks Shubman Gill’s record

New Delhi: England skipper Harry Brook slammed the fastest double century in ODI history during his side’s clash against Sri Lanka in the ongoing tri-series in Pakistan on Thursday. Brook notched up his double ton off just 114 deliveries to break the previous record held by Indian captain Shubman Gill.

Gill had slammed a double century off 117 balls against West Indies last month. Brook also became the first England batter to score a double century in ODIs. He scored an unbeaten 202 off 116 deliveries to help England post a mammoth total of 429/4 against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Brook came out to bat at no.4 during England’s innings and took his time to settle down. He then took the attack to the Sri Lankan bowlers and looked almost unstoppable after finding his groove. Brook completed his fifty off 43 balls before racing to his century off just 74 deliveries.

He took only 40 more deliveries to reach his double century and set the record for the fastest ODI double hundred. After being dropped on 185 in the 49th over, Brook needed 14 runs off the last over to achieve the elusive milestone, and he managed to cross the 200-run mark with a boundary before getting dismissed on the final ball of England’s innings.

128 – Glenn Maxwell vs AFG, Mumbai WS, 2023

136 – Pathum Nissanka vs AFG, Pallekele, 2024

Brook’s 202 off 116 balls was laced with 21 fours and ten sixes as he made a mockery of the Sri Lankan bowling attack in Rawalpindi. Brook became the first Englishman to score a double ton in ODIs, joining an elite list of batters. Only 11 batters have so far managed to hit a double ton in the fifty-over format.

Harry Brook’s double century powers England to 429/4

Brook’s 202 powered England to a huge total of 429/4, batting first against Sri Lanka in the third ODI of the tri-series. Asked to bat first, England got off to a good start in the game with openers Tom Banton (50) and Ben Duckett (29) adding 74 runs for the first wicket before Brook launched his assault.

Brook shared a 159-run stand for the third wicket with Joe Root, who played perfect support with 69 off 66 balls. Will Jacks joined Brook in the middle after Root’s dismissal and produced a sensational cameo of 30-ball 66 to take England past the 400-run mark.
