‘This evil man will be punished’: Kiren Rijiju warns Delhi influencer over alleged racial abuse of Tripura youth
New Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has condemned the alleged racial abuse of a young man from Tripura by Delhi-based content creator Amir Shokeen, warning that the accused would face action.

In a post on X, Rijiju said the Delhi and Tripura police would teach the content creator a ‘hard lesson’. His remarks came after a purported video showing Shokeen allegedly making racially derogatory comments against the youth went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage, particularly in the Northeast.
“This evil man will be punished. There was a delay in lodging the official complaint, but Delhi Police and Tripura Police will teach him a hard lesson,” Rijiju said.
He also criticised people who tolerate such behaviour, saying they were responsible for allowing hatred to spread in society.
Viral video sparks outrage over alleged racial remarks
The controversy erupted after a video allegedly showing Shokeen directing racial slurs and derogatory comments at a young man from Tripura circulated on social media. The incident drew condemnation from people across the Northeast, with demands for action against the content creator.
According to reports, the video showed the youth being mocked over his appearance and identity. The alleged remarks have renewed concerns about racial discrimination faced by people from the Northeast in other parts of the country.
A complaint has been lodged with the Tripura Police, accusing Shokeen of racial harassment, cyberbullying and making derogatory remarks against indigenous communities. The allegations are yet to be established through legal proceedings.
Tripura CM directs police to coordinate with Delhi Police
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed the state’s Director General of Police to coordinate with Delhi Police and take appropriate legal action in the matter.
The incident has also prompted demands for accountability from political leaders across party lines. Rijiju’s statement came amid calls for the authorities to investigate the allegations and ensure action under the law.
The controversy has once again brought attention to the racial slurs and discrimination reported by people from India’s northeastern states. The minister also stressed that people who tolerate such behaviour contribute to the spread of hatred.
