Madhvacharya’s teachings advocated a caste-free, harmonious society

Bengaluru: The central message of Madhvacharya, the philosopher and social reformer, was the creation of a caste-free and class-free society founded on universal human values, senior scholar VyasanakerePrabhanjanacharya said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a Madhvacharya Jayanti programme organised at the Karnataka Brahmin Development Board office.Prabhanjanacharya said Madhvacharya emphasised that human values were superior to all other religious distinctions.

Wishing well for all living beings was the path through which people could realise the divine, he said.

Those who opposed superstitions stood for truth, he said, adding that Madhvacharya upheld a broad vision of social harmony and peaceful coexistence. He had also inspired the traditions of Dasa Sahitya and Vyasa Sahitya and authored more than 37 works, the scholar said.

Brahmin Development Board chairman Asagodu Jayasimha welcomed the state government’s decision to celebrate Madhvacharya Jayanti across Karnataka every year on October 21.

The decision was appropriate and would carry forward Karnataka’s tradition of honouring religious and cultural contributions, he said.
