BCCI informs IPL franchises to prepare for auction on December 16
New Delhi: has sought details from the IPL franchises regarding the size of their delegations for the proposed auction in Goa. The auction is set to be held at a five-star hotel in Goa on December 16.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the development has emerged after the board’s logistics forwarded a WhatsApp message on Saturday, October 17. But an official email confirming the date and venue has not yet been sent to the team owners and chief executives.
“The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026 at ITC Grand Goa and auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026,” the BCCI WhatsApp notes as quoted by Cricbuzz. Multiple franchises have confirmed the same development after receiving the message from the BCCI, which asked for details of the size of each team’s delegation that is likely to attend the auction on December 16.
It has been clarified to the franchises in the message that it is intended solely to facilitate logistical arrangements and travel bookings for Goa. While the change in the auction date has not been ruled out, a formal communication is expected to be sent to the IPL franchise owners and CEOs in due course.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had confirmed in September that the IPL 2027 auction will be held in Goa in December. “This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi last year, we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December,” Saikia had told ANI.
Proposed IPL auction Date clashes with India vs Sri Lanka ODI match
The proposed auction date overlaps with India’s ODI match against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on December 16. It remains to be seen whether the match date will change.
There have also been several reports that the venue for the opening ODI, which is scheduled for December 13 in New Delhi, could be changed. However, the BCCI recently denied plans to shift the game.
