Universal Pictures has titled its upcoming film The Mummy: The Book of the Dead, bringing Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back together for another adventure as Rick and Evie O’Connell. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15, 2027.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return for The Mummy 4

Fraser will reprise his role as adventurer Rick O’Connell, while Weisz returns as Evie O’Connell. The cast also includes John Hannah, Oded Fehr, Kevin J. O’Connor, Michael Johnston and Numan Acar.

Directors and producers of the film

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence, are directing the film from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. The directing duo previously worked on Ready or Not and the 2022 revival of Scream. Coggeshall’s writing credits include The Family Plan and Orphan: First Kill.

Sean Daniel, who has been associated with the franchise for several instalments, returns as a producer. William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and Clayton Townsend are also producing. Fraser and Jason F. Brown of Hivemind will serve as executive producers.

The Mummy franchise

The original The Mummy followed treasure hunter Rick O’Connell as he accidentally awakened an ancient Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. Its success led to The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. Weisz did not appear in the third film, where Maria Bello played Evie.

The franchise also gave rise to the 2002 spin-off The Scorpion King, starring Dwayne Johnson. A separate reboot featuring Tom Cruise arrived in 2017. With Fraser and Weisz returning, the upcoming film brings the focus back to the pair who helped establish the series.
