Tanay Thyagarajan’s six-for powers Hyderabad to innings win over Tripura

Hyderabad: Left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan was the wrecker-in-chief again as Hyderabad began the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season in style with an emphatic innings and 40-run win over Tripura at Gymkhana Ground here on Tuesday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 99 for seven, still trailing by 61 runs after conceding a 160-run lead to the home team, Tripura folded up quickly on the third day, as expected.

Left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan returned impressive figures of 16.2-6-52-6 to wrap up the Tripura innings, picking up the last three wickets on Tuesday and completing a nine-wicket haul in the match.

Incidentally, this was his 12th five-wicket haul in 37 Ranji matches. Tanay once again reminded those who matter that he is one of the country’s best left-arm spinners and deserves a closer look.

Tripura folded up for 120 in 41.2 overs on Tuesday, batting for only 8.1 overs on the day.

It was a complete all-round performance by Hyderabad, led by India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj. Head coach Anirudh Singh was apparently “delighted” with the result, which also meant the team earned seven points while Tripura got none.

Hyderabad will look to continue its momentum when it takes on Andhra in its next match in Vizianagaram from October 18.

Scores: Tripura 134 in 44 overs and 120 in 41.2 overs (Sridam Paul 25, Sentu Sarkar 27; Mohammed Siraj 2/19, Tanay Thyagarajan 6/52) lost to Hyderabad 294 in 103.2 overs.
