Congress Reduces Smit’s Valour to a Political ‘Event’
The extraordinary bravery displayed by Captain Smit Machchaar, who risked his own life to save 174 people aboard an Israel-bound aircraft when his co-pilot allegedly attempted to crash it, is yet another remarkable example of courage and valour. But for the Congress party, “Captain Smit Machchhar saved his own life and the lives of others. Salute to his bravery, and there the matter ends.

The Gandhi family, which had so far not spoken even a word in praise of the valour of Machchaar, which has been hailed by all top leaders of the World, on Sunday alleged that the BJP was turning it into an event. The party leaders, including Priyanka Vadra, had gone to Parliament House with a handbag emblazoned with “Palestine in 2024 and described it as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the Israel-Gaza conflict.
But in this case, where another 9/11 like terrorist attack was averted, the Gandhi family is silent. This was the criticism of the BJP, which prompted the Congress Working President Imran Masood to say that the BJP was turning everything into an event.
Talking to media in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress MP was more concerned about the political controversy surrounding the Election Commission of India. He felt that the BJP was using this “as an event” to divert the larger issue while Rahul Gandhi was fighting against the Election Commission. “This could be a way to diffuse the issue and divert the pressure elsewhere,” the Congress MP added.
The Congress MP also attacked the BJP over the governments in Bihar and Bengal, alleging that the party had formed governments in the two states by “stealing votes”.
On the other hand, Former Union minister Mani Shankar Aiyar favoured talks with Pakistan. He felt that the government which had the “courage” to launch surgical strikes lacks willingness to resolve the issues,”
Speaking at the 5th Halla Bolle Conclave, the Congress veteran suggested holding talks at the Attari-Wagah border, asserting that arguing over past issues was not foreign policy.
“Is there any other country in the world with whom we are more comfortable than with Pakistan? Is there any country in the world with whom Pakistan is more able to, you know, chat than with us?” he asked.
