Bhagat Singh Birth Anniversary 2026: PM Modi Remembers Revolutionary’s Courage And Sacrifice

On Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s 119th birth anniversary, PM Narendra Modi on Monday honored the revolutionary freedom fighter for his courage, valour and sacrifice in the struggle for freedom.

Modi’s statements on X refer to an incident where Bhagat Singh displayed great courage and renewed momentum in the freedom struggle, the Police said in a statement. He also spoke about the selfless sacrifice of the revolutionary to uphold the honour of the nation and said that the example set by him to the Indian youth was a symbol of courage and determination.

PM Modi remembers Bhagat Singh’s fearlessness

The Prime Minister, in his video message, called Bhagat Singh as a source of inspiration for the Indians, especially the youth. Modi emphasised the unafraid spirit and dedication of the revolutionary towards the struggle for freedom.

The Prime Minister also remembered Bhagat Singh’s sensitivity towards the sufferings of common people and his benevolence towards them.

Modi had quoted a letter written by Bhagat Singh to the British officials prior to his execution. In the letter, Bhagat Singh and his associates called for the treatment of the prisoners as POWs and that they should be shot rather than hanged.

The demand showed extraordinary courage of Bhagat Singh at the time of his eventual death, said the PM.

Bhagat Singh’s Role In India’s Freedom Struggle

Bhagat Singh was born on 28th September 1907 in Banga, a village in present-day Pakistan’s Punjab province and became one of the leading revolutionaries within the Indian Independence movement.

On 8th April, 1929 Bhagat Singh and some other revolutionary set off bombs inside the Central Legislative Assembly, Delhi against the British colonial policy. They deliberately gave up after the incident and took advantage of the ensuing legal action to promulgate their political message.

Later Bhagat Singh was convicted of the Lahore Conspiracy Case. When Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were killed on March 23, 1931, then he was also shot.

Their deaths became an integral part of the freedom movement of India and Bhagat Singh emerged as a symbol of revolutionary resistance.

The 119th birth anniversary of Nawab Mohd. Afzal Hussain was marked with tributes by the people.

Some political leaders also paid tribute to Bhagat Singh on his birthday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to the revolutionary and appealed the people, especially the young to get motivated from his life and help them in building a knowledgeable and capable society.

The political leaders and Union ministers also sent messages to commemorate Bhagat Singh’s contribution, courage and sacrifice.

Bhagat Singh’s 119th birthday was celebrated nationally with commemorative events and a tribute to his contributions to the struggle for Indian independence and his enduring legacy.
