Women’s T20 WC 2026: India drop four catches in five overs against Bangladesh in must-win match

New Delhi: India made a disappointing start in the field during their must-win Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Bangladesh at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday, June 25. The Women in Blue dropped five catches in the opening five overs of the match.

The first catch dropped by the Indian team on the second last ball of the third over when Yastika Bhatia ran hard from short fine and put in the dive to grab the ball, but only got a finger. The Women in Blue missed a bigger chance at the end of the fourth over as Radha Yadav dropped a simple catch at deep mid-wicket.

Things went from bad to worse in the fifth over as Nandini Sharma dropped two catches on consecutive deliveries. On the second ball, Sobhana Mostary drove hard towards cover, where Nandini put in the dive, and got both hands on the ball but failed to complete the catch.

Indian captain Harmanpreet then changed her position to short third, and on the very next delivery she put down another diving catch. This is the second instance of the tournament in which a team dropped three or more catches in the first six overs of an innings, both by India: three against Pakistan at Edgbaston and four in the Bangladesh clash.
