‘Ananya’ wins ‘Best Film’ Award

Brahmapur: The short film ‘Ananya,’ produced in Hinjilicut, won the Best Film Award at the 7th Nirmal Pandey Smriti Film Festival 2026 in Raipur, bringing national recognition and pride to Ganjam district and Odisha.

Based on a theme of social awareness, ‘Ananya’ was entirely shot in and around Hinjilicut, portraying the local environment, society and everyday life while delivering a meaningful social message.

The film was produced by Nrityam Kala Gabeshana Kendra, Hinjilicut. Local artistes Madhusudan Mishra and Sonam Sahu featured in the film, while Krishna DK handled its concept and direction.

The selected films were screened on August 10 and the festival results were announced on August 11.

The jury honoured ‘Ananya’ for its subject, presentation and effective storytelling.

The festival, organised in memory of noted actor Nirmal Pandey, witnessed the participation of several personalities from the film and television industry, including Rajendra Gupta and Rohitashv Gour.

The award has sparked celebration among the film’s team and the people of Hinjilicut, Ganjam and Odisha. National recognition is expected to encourage young artistes and aspiring filmmakers in the region to explore their creative potential.

‘Ananya’ has emerged as a notable example of how stories rooted in local communities can transcend geographical boundaries and earn acclaim on the national stage.
