Two held after rowdy sheeter waves sword outside bar

Mangaluru: Police attached to the Ullal station on the periphery of Mangaluru arrested two men after a rowdy sheeter, while intoxicated, displayed a sword near a bar and intimidated members of the public. The sequence was fully captured by the establishment’s CCTV system and has now entered wider discussion on social media.

Those taken into custody are Mohammed Shakir, listed as a rowdy sheeter, and Ashfaq, who had transported Shakir in an auto-rickshaw. Shakir is accused of  approaching the bar in an intoxicated condition, holding a sword and using it to threaten the peoplegathered there.

The display produced a charged atmosphere for a period. Residents and patrons became alarmed at the sight of the individual brandishing the weapon so close to the bar.

Police registered the offence and secured both men before any graver development could take place. Officers are probing Ashfaq’s involvement, the connection between the two accused and the reasons behind the incident.

The bar’s CCTV recording has been obtained as crucial evidence. It depicts Shakir holding the sword and directing intimidation at the public.

Recovery of the sword and examination of any prior criminal history of the accused may also form part of the process.

The rapid arrests stand out as noteworthy. CCTV evidence is expected to play a decisive role, and the full context should become known after the investigation is finished.
