Gurugram: Maid beaten inside posh DLF Camellias, Police file FIR
New Delhi: A video showing a woman repeatedly hitting and threatening her domestic worker inside a luxury apartment in Gurugram has triggered massive outrage on social media, prompting local police to take legal action.
The incident occurred on July 24 at DLF The Camellias, a residential complex situated on Golf Course Road in Sector 42. A neighbour captured the clip through a kitchen window, which later spread rapidly across various online platforms.
In the footage, the employer approaches the domestic help inside the kitchen and begins assaulting her. She is seen repeatedly slapping, shoving, grabbing her face, and pulling her hair while threatening her. After the clip triggered widespread anger online, citizens demanded strict action against the woman.
Police register FIR and launch probe
Taking note of the viral video, Gurugram Police registered an FIR against the employer at Sushant Lok police station on Sunday night. The case was filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 127(2) for wrongful confinement.
Officers subsequently visited the spot and conducted a field inquiry to verify the facts.
“After taking note of the viral video, an FIR was registered against the woman employer under Section 115 of the BNS at Sushant Lok police station on Sunday night. We are verifying the facts and action will be taken as per the law,” DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said.
Sushant Lok SHO Aman Kumar stated that officers are looking into the matter closely. “Based on the viral video, we are investigating from all angles,” he added.
Victim retracts complaint and returns to Nepal
Police sources identified the accused as the wife of a Gurugram-based liquor businessman. The worker, a native of Nepal, had been employed at the apartment for the past two years.
According to the police, the worker has since returned to her hometown. In a written statement, she requested that the viral video be removed from social media platforms.
A relative of the worker also stated that she had not lodged any formal complaint with the police and did not hold any grievances against her employer. The matter has been forwarded to senior officials and the area magistrate as further investigation continues.
